WAR AGAINST CANCER

                                                       Cancer is a serious concern for all countries across the globe now-a-days.Cancer is "A group of diseases causing abnormal cell growth which may have the ability to further invade and spread in other parts of the body". In cancer an uncontrolled cell proliferation is triggered, two most common kinds of cancer are:

   

1. Benign(also simply called"tumor", and remain at a single part, do not spread)
2. Malignant(Localized cancer having ability to spread in various parts of body)

                                                       Cancer can be caused due to genetic reasons,unhealthy food,Radiations,UV-exposure,etc. So, we can say that it could be naturally all ready inside you since your birth in form of a genetic disorder or it can be artificially induced due to external factors. But in the end Cancer remains a serious threat for entire human race.Cancer's main hold through which it keeps on generating and have ability to regenerate again,even after Extensive and painful Chemotherapy, is the cancer stem cell.So, what we need to do is to counter the Cancer Stem Cell and the gene causing cancer.

CURRENT SITUATION:
                                           According to statistic data by Cancer Research UK:

Total 14.1 million cases reported worldwide in 2012-8 million cases reported from Economically developing countries.

Total 8.2 million deaths occurred due to cancer

Four most common cancers were lung,Female breast,Bowel and Prostate.

Smoking alone is the biggest cause of cancer(19%)

FUTURE CONCERNS:

Total number of cases to be diagnosed can rise up to 21.7 million

Total death toll can be up to 13 million

 RECENT PROGRESS:
                                    Now a days Countries,companies and individual scientist groups are all working in order to counter and conquer the threat of cancer. Annually Billions are invested in research on cancer,which is finally giving great results, Many Companies,Organizations and Scientists are making serious progress in fight against cancer: The most prominent are:

• Scientist from Institute of Cancer Research London, have discovered that BLOOD TEST can help in detection of cancer relapse months ago, this is done by analyzing the mutated DNA from the tumor and then searching for those mutated DNA in Blood, Cancerous cells can be detected when they enter in to blood stream and this will help in early diagnosis of cancer and ultimately preventing cancer from becoming severe.
  
• Another important progress is the discovery of Magical DNA repairing protein called XPG protein, Scientists from Berkeley National Lab. discovered that XPG plays a previously unknown and critical role helping to maintain genome stability in human cells. The protein helps in preventing Breast, Ovarian, Prostate and Pancreatic Cancer, caused due to defects in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, XPG protein works with at least 5 other cellular proteins to carry out homologous recombination. Study shows that cells with reduced level of XPG have much higher prevalence of genome instability in form of cell cycle defects.
  
• One of the recent and most important research is by the Pharmaceutical Giant Bayer And Oncomed, Both companies have developed Antibodies that attacks and destroy cancer stem cells,these antibodies blocks cancer stem cells receptor sites and destroys them.
